The project reimagines the existing four-story L-shaped building and the adjacent two-story cylindrical structure, which will dominate the courtyard and be highly visible from the street. The design aims to craft an architectural composition that captivates and intrigues passersby. The innovative solution features a dramatic shell of large-format wooden slats wrapping around the two-story cylinder, becoming the centerpiece of the facade.
The cylindrical and L-shaped buildings connect at ground level. The cylinder is wrapped in wooden lamellas that shift shape based on the viewer's angle, creating a striking visual effect with tunnel-like passages. From the road, it appears as a regular striped cylinder, while from the opposite side, its shape appears fragmented. Besides their unique design, the lamellas and built-in pergolas also provide effective sun and shade protection.
In the evening, the cylindrical structure becomes even more spectacular, thanks to programmed LED matrices that illuminate the long ends of the wooden slats. The animations on each rail are synchronized to form a cohesive image. As dusk falls, this vivid media installation becomes visible from afar, creating a dynamic visual display across the entire surface of the cylinder.
The building’s panoramic windows required a solution for Cyprus's intense heat. To keep the space cool and comfortable, automatic Japanese curtains were installed. These curtains, which move according to a preset pattern, provide an elegant alternative to traditional roller shutters and enhance the building’s facade.
